Angarika Chaturthi is celebrated on the day, when Krishna Paksha Chaturthi combines with the weekday Tuesday. There is Story behind celebrating Angarika Chaturthi.

Angarak was the son of Bharadwaj Rishi and Mother Earth. Angarak learned education from his father. Bharadwaj Rishi himself was a follower of Lord Ganesha. Angarak was also become a great devotee of Lord Ganesh. He also started worshiping Ganesha for his blessings.

On Krishna Paksha Chaturthi of Magh Month (that day was also a Tuesday), Angarak was blessed by Lord Ganesha. And provided him a boon. Angarika replied as “my only wish was to be associated with Lord Ganesha’s name for forever”. Lord Ganesha Granted it. From then, when ever Sankashti falls on tuesday is known Angarika Ganesh Chaturthi or Angarika Chaturthi. Magh Krisha Chaturthi is also known as Angarak Chaturthi.

Angarika Chaturthi is a fast observed in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa and Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. This fast is dedicated to God Ganesha. Angarika Chaturthi is also a sankashti chaturthi, that falls on Tuesday. Angarika chaturthi is on the new year day, i.e on 1st January 2013.

There is an interesting story behind Angarika chaturthi. Angarak was the son of Bhardwaj rishi and Godess Earth. Hw worshiped the god Ganesha and blessed by him. Devotees observe fast on this day, Visit temples and worship God Ganesha.

How To Observe Angarika Chaturthi?

Angarika Chaturthi fast is observed by devotees of God Ganesha. They start fast from the sunrise. In the evening after seeing the moon, devotees worship lord Ganesha and break the fast.

In the evening of Angarika Chaturthi day people perform ritual bath and worship lord Ganesha. During this puja they offer 21 dhruvas, Aarti and Naivedyam. After sighting the moon, offer naivedyam to the moon god, feed the poor / Brahmin and break the fast. By performing Angarika chaturthi Vrat one can get the result of all the chaturthi fasts performed in a year.

On the day of Angarika Chaturthi, devotees visit temples. Perform special pujas and Abhishekam. Chanting Arthava Sheersha and Ganesha Ashtottam considered auspicious during this day.
